Beith 1820 – 1911
Our new exhibition depicting Beith from 1820 to 1911 is now open on the ground floor. This will run until the end of the year and as well as a timeline of events in the town has a wide variety of Victorian objects on show including military regalia, costumes, kitchen utensils and games and toys. Our speaker for October, Simon McGrory, will be known to many for his role with the Garnock Connections project. Previously he worked at a living history project in England based at the farm owned by the family of Mary Arden, the mother of William Shakespeare. Once again we are holding a service in the grounds of the Auld Kirk to remember all those who have served during the 2 World Wars and 226 wooden crosses have been placed. Service will be led by Rev. Our November speaker, Jim Thompson has a wealth of stories about the town and also the Townhouse as he worked both in the Library and the Registrar's Office when they were based there. As this will be our last talk of 2017 there will be a glass of wine and nibbles served during the evening. Christmas Concert featuring Garnock Valley Community Concert Band
We are thrilled to announce that the Garnock Valley Community Concert band are holding their Christmas concert this year in Beith and are generously donating part of the proceeds to the Townhouse. The band play a wide variety of music so there is sure to be something to suit all tastes. As well as the concert band there will also be guest appearances by the choirs of Beith and Gateside Primary Schools. Festive refreshments will be served.

“Stories from Barrmill Jolly Beggars Burns Club” – Donald Reid
Our first talk of 2018 will be about Rabbie Burns and the Barrmill Jolly Beggars Burns Club. Donald Reid is well known for his Burns recitations and love of poetry so this is sure to be an entertaining evening. Refreshments included.
